What to do?
Tonight, I watched the movie “Across the Universe,” then I came home, had a glass of wine, opened up Firefox, and was greeted by a headline about the bombing today in Pakistan. I am now extremely confused. What should we do? If “All we need is love,” then why do things like this keep happening? Maybe I’m just a privileged hippieliberaloptimistunitarianpacifistactivist, and therefore I should have no say in this matter, but I just cannot understand why people keep killing each other. I really, truly, deep in my soul do not get why we do these things. It bothers me, it frightens me, and it makes me feel like no amount of Tolerance Campaigns or Love-Your-Neighbor preaching will ever do us any good if at our cores we are still willing to fight each other over our differences. Are we? Is that all we are? Right now, I’m not sure of any other answer but yes. Let’s hope that changes tomorrow…
In other, less apocalyptic news, the movie was great–a little trippy at times, but very artistically done. Yay, Julie Taymor! You should all see it. Maybe it will remind you to keep a little love in your lives. And either way, everyone loves a young, attractive, emo Beatles impersonator with a shaggy hair do. Everyone.
Until next time.
Hello, Blogger World
I am starting a Blog. If you read that last sentence, you probably already figured that out. In any case, greetings. My name is Kat, and I have decided to make my opinions known on the World Wide Web. For years, I have spent many a late night venting to my friends, and especially to my boyfriend (sorry, dear), about the goings-on in the world and how and why they need to change. This summer, I decided that it was about time I did something myself to set this change in motion. Granted, creating a blog is not the same as marching on Washington or chaining myself to the underbelly of a tank, but it’s a start, and I still fully plan to do those other two things sometime in the near future. It’s been about two months since I decided that making a difference would mean voicing my ideas to a larger audience than my closest companions and my cat, and I’m finally ready to start. I ask you to bear with me in this process, as it is my first venture into the blogging world. But in case you have any doubts about the worthwhileness of my site, I can assure you that, in addition to my bleeding-heart whinings and pinko leanings, you will also receive an adequate dose of humor in my blog entries….unless of course I’m really fed up with everything, and then I might just sound angry. For example, if I’ve just watched one of Bush’s White House press conferences on CNN, my entry might read something like: “Fuck you, dumb ass. Why don’t you go ruin another part of our country, Satan,” which really isn’t funny at all, but I promise that some of them will be. So, with that said, welcome to my blog. If you are already a liberal, I think you will find in me a friendly voice and hopefully realize that you are not alone with your thoughts in this crazy world. If you are a conservative, I’m not quite sure why you’ve even read this far, but welcome! We may not have any of the same personal, intellectual, or moral values, but maybe we have the same favorite color (nothing can step to royal purple), so please, feel free to read on. But whoever you are, I hope my words will make you think. If they do, I will have more than accomplished my purpose. Until next time.
